The Food and Drink Challenge is all about creating and manufacturing, costing and marketing a product for the food and drink industry.
The materials have been designed to simulate the steps that a company goes through before a product can be sold to the general public.
The aim of the materials is to guide a learner through each of the processes, to give them an idea of what's involved - just as if they were working for a company in the food and drink industry.
The learners decide on the type of product and then works through five sections:
-
Choosing values - who will buy the product and where from?
-
Manufacturing - choosing ingredients and organising the team to make the product.
-
Marketing - deciding on the name and advertising .
-
Costing - working out how much it costs to manufacture the product, as well as overheads and profits and the final selling price.
-
Trade fair - presenting the product to the judges .
